本仕様の目的は，스텐레스鋼製溶接継手の製造者，溶接施工業者，およびendoyuーザ間における混乱を防ぎ，溶接継手の寸法を標準化する ことである.

　

本仕様は， 6.35 mm （ 1/4 in ）， 9.53 mm （ 3/8 in ）， 12.7 mm （ 1/2 in ）の，半導体業界で用用される機械加工された溶接継手のエイーに適用される。
